The Governor of Punjab and Chairman of the Council of Governors, Aitchison, have changed the rules of the university, which has caused much debate recently.

According to details, the governor has approved a 50% fee waiver for students availing reservations during vacations or absences.

It should be noted that last month, Punjab Governor Bilighur Rehman ordered to waive the fees of the sons of Federal Finance Minister Ahad Cheema.

The decision was protested by the college’s principal, Michael A. It sparked strong backlash, including Thomson’s resignation. Thompson tendered his resignation, citing “prejudicial actions by the Governor’s House” and described them as “unnecessary interference and obnoxious directives”.

The college’s board of trustees recently announced the resignation of Michael A. Thomson as principal and appointed Amina Kamrani as interim principal.

It should be noted that this is not the first time that a former Aitchison director has resigned due to political interference. He resigned in September 2018 under pressure from political circles after taking disciplinary action against some students.

According to reports at the time, the college’s board of trustees pressured the principal to admit former MP Kashmala Tariq’s son to A-levels after his earlier expulsion.

However, he later withdrew his resignation after the then Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and the provincial education minister visited him to persuade him to reconsider.
