The latest astronomical calculations predict when it will be possible to observe the crescent moon

Muslims, who will fast for a month during Ramadan, will celebrate Eid al-Fitr next week. The holiday coincides with the longest holiday of the year, and for private workers, the duration depends on when the moon is visible.

Mohammad Shaukat Odeh, director of the International Center for Astronomy in Abu Dhabi; and Khadijah Ahmad, operations manager of the Dubai Astronomy Group, revealed to Khaleej Times the most likely date of the festival based on astronomical calculations. Here’s everything you need to know about the dates and duration of your vacation to plan your vacation or stay.

When will the UAE moon sighting committee meet?

Like every month in the Islamic Hijri calendar. Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days in the lunar calendar. The sighting of the crescent determines when the month ends and the next month begins. Muslims look to the moon on the 29th of every month.

The UAE Lunar Observation Committee will take to the night sky on Monday evening, April 8, to search for the crescent moon. Because Ramadan ends after 29 days, Eid al-Fitr falls on Tuesday, April 9. Otherwise, the holy month lasts 30 days, and the Islamic holiday falls on April 10.

When is the Holiday?

Even the moon is visible. The public holiday starts on Monday 8 April (29 Ramadan), but for everyone in the UAE, Eid al-Fitr falls on 9 or 10 April, depending on which moon is visible.

For the officers: next week will be a full holiday. When combined with a holiday, it becomes a nine-day holiday, but in the case of private companies, it is a nine-day holiday including Saturday and Sunday. Except for Eid, it falls on April 10 and April 12 after a 6-day break.

What do the Astronomical Calculation Predict?

According to Khadijah, the moon cannot be seen on Monday. Mohammed Shawkat said the holy month will last 30 days and Eid al-Fitr will be on Wednesday, April 10 – giving the entire population a nine-day holiday. If so, the holiday is Saturday, April 6, through Sunday, April 14.

However, the actual date will be announced by the government on Monday, April 8.
